1 What mighty praise, O God,
belongs to you in Zion.
We will fulfill our vows to you,
2 for you answer our prayers.
All of us must come to you.
3 Though we are overwhelmed by our sins,
you forgive them all.
4 What joy for those you choose to bring near,
those who live in your holy courts.
What festivities await us
inside your holy Temple.
5 You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds,
O God our savior.
You are the hope of everyone on earth,
even those who sail on distant seas. (Psalm 65:1–5, NLT)

Praise and Prayers

Psalm 65 is the appointed psalm for this coming Sunday. It is worthy of your time to read, re-read, read out loud, or even sing it in plainsong. David, the psalmist, begins by praising God and reminding us to keep our vows to Him (v. 1). God is our God who faithfully answers prayer by awesome deeds of deliverance (v. 5). What an assurance of faith that is so needed at this time.

If you are living under the threat of sickness, the hurricane season, or any other kind of struggle or hardship, then meditating on Psalm 65 will quiet your soul. Write out a verse or two, and when you are worried refer to it for reassurance of God’s love for you. When you can’t sleep at night, remember His Word. Memorize it in whole or in part; use it as David for praise and prayer. Then you as David will respond in all things at all times with thanksgiving and shouts of joy, not tears of worry (v. 8).

I have included only the first five verses of Psalm 65 so during your quiet time be sure to read and meditate on all of it.

The Lord’s peace be with you!
